The Reproductive Health Survey 2000 was conducted by the LSB using two-stage stratified cluster sample method, covering 17 provinces and one special zone. The selection procedure resulted in a total of 21 061 households distributed in 720 villages, and covered 12 759 women 15-49 years old and a sub-sample of 3 060 men (husbands) aged 15-49 years old selected for interview.
The Household Questionnaire included 9 modules.
The Questionnaire for Individual Women was administered to all women aged 15-49 years living in the households.
The Questionnaire for Children under five years old was administered to mothers or caretakers of children under 5 years of age1 living in the households. Normally, the questionnaire was administered to mothers of under-5 children; in cases when the mother was not listed in the household roster, a primary caretaker for the child was identified and interviewed.
Procedures and standard programs developed under MICS and adapted to Lao NHS 2000 questionnaire were used throughout. Data were analysed by NIOPH and LSB teams within 2 months, using SPSS, version 10.
